Information Search Process: A Model for Student Research
Description
How do we get students to think critically about research and take ownership for their learning? Participants in this course will learn how to create student-centered research projects using a six-step model called the Information Search Process (ISP), which makes the stages of the research process explicit. In this two-day course, participants will experience stages of ISP, discuss ways to bring students through the process, and develop lessons that provide evidence of progress through each stage.
Evidence of need
Our 2009-2010 school year was devoted to developing an understanding of 21st century skills, project-based learning, and student inquiry. The information search process, a six-step process that describes an information user’s experience in seeking information and making meaning, is an important part of successful student inquiry.
